Interested industry personnel. Participants should have taken Economic Considerations for Land Deals or a similar course dealing with economic evaluations, including discounted cash flow and NPV analysis.
The course will prepare participants to contribute effectively to the decision-making process for investment opportunities in oil and gas exploration, development and acquisitions. Economic evaluation and strategy formulation techniques are presented ranging from the project-specific to the corporate-wide perspective. Using case studies, the instructor will discuss the following topics:
Mr. Arsenych is Chairman of Ravenwood Energy Corp., a private oil and gas company which he co-founded in 2003. He has over 24 years of experience in land management, deal negotiations, economic evaluations, corporate finance, and strategic planning with several Canadian oil and gas companies. He began his career in 1977 as a surface landman and followed a career path through land administration and contracts before becoming a negotiating landman. In 1986, Mr. Arsenych pursued a career in the financial and business development side of the industry before starting his first oil and gas company in 1993 – Neutrino Resources (sold in 1998 for $83 million), Bridgetown Energy (started in 1995, equity position sold in 1997), and Ravenwood Resources (started in 1999, sold in 2003 for $25 million). Mr. Arsenych is a 1983 M.B.A. graduate from the University of Western Ontario. For 10 years, he was a part-time Sessional Instructor in petroleum economics and strategy at the University of Calgary in conjunction with the Petroleum Land Management program.
