This seminar is directed towards members of industry with 5 or more years experience and is intended to summarize and describe all facets of surface rights within the oil and gas business. Registrants should consider Introduction to Surface Rights or at least 5 years of field experience as a prerequisite for this course.

What:

The course will provide a complete overview of surface rights and will be structured as follows:

  2. Contrast of Surface Rights and Mineral Rights
  3. Land Titles
  4. Land Agents
  5. Operators/Lessees
  6. Documents
  7. Application for Right of Entry
  8. Application for Well License/Pipeline Permit
  9. Reclamation
  10. Surrender/Termination of Interest

Registration Fee includes beverages and snacks.

Instructor(s):

Heidi Meldrum 

Heidi completed her articles with Swist & Company in 2004.  She joined Parlee McLaws in 2006, when Swist & Company joined the firm.  Heidi's oil & gas practice is focused in the areas of oil and gas development and surface rights relating to wellsites, facilities and pipelines, including licensing, surface access, and  reclamation issues under the jurisdiction of the Surface Rights Board (SRB), the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB), and Alberta Environment.  Her experience in these areas includes dealing with courts and administrative tribunals (SRB and ERCB), and coordination and preparation of regulatory documents for oil and gas operators, including license application packages and right of way entry application packages.  Professional Associations and Memberships:  Member, Canadian Bar Association - Alberta Community.

Robert (Bob) Garies, P.Land

Bob has over 30 years of oil and gas experience in Mineral and Surface negotiations and acquisitions.  Bob is an active and life member of CAPL and an active member of IRWA.  For CAPL, he is the Past Chairman of the Field Acquisition and Management Committee and was CAPL's representative to the Appropriate Dispute Resolution Standing Committee for 10 years.
